walking home after dark
the constant harassment
of june bugs
a chipmunk warns
of an aerial threat
wildfire haze
evening calm
the silent fireworks
of alliums
touching each blossom
as I pass
rain-wet rhodora
distant foghorn . . .
she crushes the sweetfern
to share its scent
scenic highway
my car drives over
a crow’s shadow
slow awakening . . .
a mourning dove’s coos
in morning fog
river swelling with rain the rattle of a wren
morning sun
spring’s first swallowtail
flits past the lilac
bobolink song . . .
twin ruts of a farm track
shine with rainwater
memorial bench
she sits and listens
for a cardinal
