the window candle
turns on before dark
above the mountains
of plowed snow
Venus
slow-falling snow
a cardinal takes her time
in the feeder
spitting snow . . .
a flock of robins scatters
through the sumacs
a crow’s voice
over the white noise
therapy session
winter dawn
an owl’s darkness
passes over our heads
frozen marsh
a bittern in the reeds
holds its pose
a serious case
of the munchies

American Robins decimate the remaining multiflora rose hips. This time of year flocks of robins roam around looking for whatever fruits and berries they can find to get through these last months of winter.
