grocery cart hand-off
the warmth left
by a stranger’s hands
the high calls
of migrating sparrows
so far yet to go
crows headed to roost
the day’s efforts
lifting away
knowing the river
is right out there
in the dark
daintily
pecking at bird seed
one big crow
leaves rustling
with sparrows
fall migration
And a bonus haiku by guest contributor Vicki Henderson (my mom):
sprinkled from the sky
a peppering
of sparrows
woods opening again
we haven’t seen the deer
since spring
hoping the snow
turns back to rain
harvest moon
Halloween display
pot of mums
giving up the ghost
evening workout
every new circuit
a glimpse of the moon
swirling crows
autumn wind
made visible
