lazy snowflakes

an oak tree getting in
the last word
late afternoon light
what a titmouse gleans
from gutter leaves
needle ice —
the moon and Jupiter
align
without a cat
to help decorate the tree —
winter moths
their long pale bodies
bending over the lake
winter birches

our elderly neighbor goes off
in an ambulance
no snow yet . . .
our new amaryllis
clashes with the mums
early dusk
a flock of leaves swirls
and settles
