fairy house trail
watching from the ferns
red meadowhawk
migrant nighthawks
dozens flitting through
the birding list-serve
walking the yard
after the deer have gone
warm front
Today’s haiku was co-created by my husband Paul and me while we were driving through Vermont this afternoon.
moose crossing ahead
the first red leaves
of the swamp maple
late summer
the dawn chorus
of crows
angle of light
the chirring of crickets
amplified
summer traffic
a car alarm competes
with a cardinal
farmers market
peach wood-oven pizza
sells out first
also unable
to let go of summer
singing vireo
afternoon lake
dreaming of the sea
a raft of loons
Yesterday I had the good fortune to lead a haiku workshop at Hewnoaks Artist Colony on the shores of Kezar Lake in Lovell, ME. This haiku was generated there, under the tall, lakeside pines.
late summer afternoon
old pines leaning
into the sun
