snow in the mountains
a flock of siskins
crowds the feeder
morning chill
the last of the basil
fills a vase
sunlight through red leaves
we look up
when we talk about heaven
as if they have
minds of their own
falling leaves
massage
the soothing sounds
of passing traffic
a new red ladder
propped on the apple tree
fall sunrise
on a back road
I pull over for sirens
crimson maple
rain at last
the river raises
its voice
winter is coming
I play god
with the patio plants
fall foliage
the crane’s red crown
flesh not feathers
continuing drought
the colorful leaves
too much like fire
