spring equinox
a window half-open
to dovesong
the first day
the snow is gone
snowdrops
late winter
through the open window
a crow’s call
a flock of waxwings
passing through
almost spring
a sparrow takes a bath
in a thawed stretch of stream
almost spring
a walk after work
to check out the crocuses
daylight savings
almost spring
a sparrow shares his song again
in falling snow
Haiga is a work of art combined with (usually) haiku. Similar to the juxtaposition of the two parts of a haiku, the art and poetry are supposed to complement one another—but not connect in an explicit way. That is, the art should not be a literal illustration of the poem, and the poem should not merely describe the art.
A friend sent me a photo this morning with a challenge. Here’s what I came up with.
